Independence Day in LA
Client: Self-Initiated
Location: Los Angeles, CA
Date: July, 4th 2021
Role: Founder, Producer & Host
In 2021, Los Angeles was reopening after COVID lockdowns. Restrictions were still in place, but people were craving connection.
I decided to take the risk. With no client, no sponsors, and no experience in the event industry, I secured a venue and tested interest within my community.
The response was immediate. People were ready.
Despite shifting regulations and a last-minute venue cancellation, the event sold out at 300 guests (maximum capacity) with a 250-person waiting list.
Inspired by my favorite holiday, the 4th of July, the night symbolized celebration, collective joy, and a return to being together. The production wasn’t as polished as my work today. But it captured something essential: instinct, resilience, and momentum.
That was the beginning of my career in event production.
Impact:
300 tickets sold
250-person waitlist
Fully independent production during COVID-era reopening
Sparked my transition from advertising into professional event production
What I learned:
Risk creates opportunity
Community appetite can be stronger than fear
Production problems are inevitable. Composure is everything. Always have a contingency plan.
If you can build momentum without resources, you can build anything
